The Challenge

The copper SX-EW operation processes acidic ore slurry (pH 1.5, 60°C) containing abrasive particulates. Previous rubber linings from other suppliers had failed within 3 years due to combined acid attack and abrasion wear, causing production losses exceeding $5M annually.

Our Solution

Jasmino engineered a dual-hardness rubber lining system — a hard natural rubber outer layer for abrasion resistance bonded to a soft chlorobutyl inner layer for acid impermeability. The compound was developed at GBT Germany and applied at our India facility.

Methodology

Our approach

01

Compound R&D

GBT Germany developed a dual-compound system: 65 Shore A natural rubber for abrasion resistance (DIN abrasion <100 mm³) over 50 Shore A chlorobutyl for chemical barrier performance.

02

Vessel Design

8 agitated leach tanks designed per ASME VIII with wear-resistant baffles and nozzle reinforcements. All agitator shafts sealed with rubber-lined stuffing boxes.

03

Application

Full autoclave cure at 6 bar/140°C for maximum rubber-to-steel bond strength. Peel test results averaged 8 kN/m — 60% above specification.

04

Piping Package

2,400m of rubber-lined steel piping for slurry transfer between leach tanks, settlers, and the electro-winning circuit.
